Ellen Mariani, whose husband, Louis Neil Mariani, was a passenger on United Airlines Flight 175, which crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center filed a complaint in federal district court against George W. Bush and his administration charging they failed to heed repeated warnings from U.S. intelligence and foreign sources that terrorists could well use commercial aircraft as weapons. In a separate letter to the Bush, Mariani wrote: "During your daily intelligence briefings you were given information that had been uncovered that the very real possibility existed that certain undesirable elements would use commercial aircraft to destroy certain "target" buildings. You never warned the American people of this possible threat. Who were you protecting?" Access to Bush's daily briefings in which such matters were discussed has been blocked by the Whitehouse, though a select and questionable few on the 9/11 investigation commission will be allowed limited review.

Not surprisingly, the story of Ellen Mariani's court case was almost completely ignored by corporate media with the exception of mention of the lawsuit buried deep in a mainstream news item about 9/11 compensation. This is classic U.S. corporate media behavior. However, independent news sources such as Indymedia, as well as political activists and individual researchers continue to follow the story and the actions of the 9/11 investigation panel. Mariani is one of many victims relatives who question the investigation. The recent appointment of former Sen.. Bob Kerrey to replace Max Cleland on the investigation panel itself is being criticized. Cleland has said "Americans are being scammed" by the investigation. Additionally, the deadline for the investigation is approaching and many feel it is being rushed to avoid political damage to Bush's re-election campaign.

The Questioning Of Authority In Times Of War

Dave Jacobs 18.Dec.2003 16:50

Hello All
My Name is Dave Jacobs I live in vermont and was reading this article and felt that it needed some kind of comment on it. It disgusts me to find an article like this to be ignored by the U.S. media covering things like holiday sales over human rights, and the real terrorisms. I would like to thank you folks at indymedia for providing articles like this to the world and all communities. I think that one of the most pressing concerns of the world is to have true journalism. It is very hard to find among sources owned by multinational corporations.

In Solidarity,
Dave Jacobs

The Evidence Existed

since 1991 with the FBI that terrorists may use jumbo jets to fly them through skyscrapers; however, Condeleeza Rice made a statement shortly after 9/11 that NO ONE could imagine such a horrendous act may take place. Excuse me, but I believe she is the head of the National Security Agency. The entity charged with the Security of our nation.

The FBI could imagine this as they had information suggesting such an event could take place since 1991. Perhaps she should spend more time looking at FBI and CIA intelligence before she makes a statement that only shows she is not in the KNOW, the LOOP or just spreading disinformation.

Awesome

As a reluctant Bush supporter, I wholeheartedly support the pushing of the "Bush knew!" conspiracy theory. It is something the average American voter will not swallow, thus guaranteeing Bush's re-election in 2004.
