The Impact of the Imposed Israeli Occupation Siege on

An-Najah National University Students

Introduction

This report has been undertaken by the Public Relations Department of An-Najah National University, Nablus, in the West Bank of the Palestinian National Authority, to improve the level of awareness of international NGOs and the world outside in general. Our aim is to show what students of our academic institutions have been, and continue to be subjected to during the last 21 months.

The report regards the violation of our students rights to live as normal students, the difficulties and the obstacles they have to face on their daily bases life, not only at the Israeli occupation army checkpoints but also in the city of Nablus, specially during the different invasions of the Israeli army in the city.

It also includes the collective punishment which is normally used against our students, the humiliations and insulations, and whatever makes the academy life unbelievable.

This reports aims to tell the truth about the uncivilized practices of the Israeli occupation soldiers, which did not have any other goal but humiliating and putting more pressure on our students to give up.

Many of our students, the number is 1574, were not able to registrant for the new academy year because of he current situation. They were not able to resume their classes, not only because of the financial crises, but also because of the danger they used to face on their way to the university from their villages and back. It is well known that An-Najah University serves the northern part of West Bank, the majority of the students are from the neighboring villages and cities as Tulkarim, Qalkelia, Jenin and from the surrounding refugee camps too. There are also students coming from the South of West Bank, like Ramallah and Hebron regions, who are attending courses that are not available in the universities of their towns. This means that the story of sufferance is part of the daily life of Palestinian students.

Some numbers: 27 student fall martyre, dozens have been injured, and many have been arrested. It is our duty to reveal the truth about the impact of the Israeli siege on An-Najah National University students.

The Public Relations Department regret to be in lack for pictures, it was not easy or possible to take pictures at the checkpoints because of the aggressive response of the Israeli soldiers, who were ready to shoot on camera man or on any local journalist who tried to take pictures of students while they were humiliated, but we managed to get some pictures, which are included in this report. The teams of the Public Relations Department were unable to cross-check the responses or to make a systematic investigation. We were focusing on the cases of flagrant violation of the Geneva Conventions:

The systematic beating of students

The prevention of Passing the checkpoints

Humiliation and insulations

The invasion of student’s dormitories.

Racism and discrimination

The psychological badly threat of students.
