5 students of An-Najah University

All from Yasid Village

On the March 3, 2002 we left our village and headed for Nablus, which is where we attend college. There were 2 girls and 3 guys among our group. An Israeli checkpoint was waiting for us on the border of our village. The Israeli soldiers ordered all of us to get out of our taxi. They questioned both of us girls and allowed us to get in the car. They ordered the 3 guys students and the taxi driver to stand beside the road and wait. An Israeli soldier took a book from one of the students and asked the student about it. The student said, "This is a book of history." The soldier asked him once again, "why do you carry it?" The student replied, "I have to take an exam today. The soldier decided that he would ask the student some questions from the book, and he was told that if he did not reply to the question correctly he would be punished. The soldier asked the Palestinian student what the size of the state of Israel was. The Palestinian student did not reply, and he was silent for a long time. A strong beat came from the soldier onto the face of the student. The soldier asked him about the geography of the state of Israel, but the student did not reply, so another blow came to his head. The student was put through a hard psychological phase, because the questions were symbolic questions, which touch the heart of every Palestinian's national dreams.

The Israeli soldier asked, "what about your teacher of history?" The student did not fear replying to such a question, so he did. The soldier replied, "good, and because you replied to the question I will reward you with two books instead of one." The Israeli soldier tore the book into 2 pieces, threw them onto the ground, and stopped his boots on what was left of the book. He told him to take his book and study well followed by some nasty words.” The soldier went to the next student and asked, "Do you like Sharon?" The student was afraid, so he said, "yes." The Israeli soldier gave him a beating on his head with his gun and asked, "How could you like our Sharon? Don't you like Arafat?" The student said, "Yes". The soldier beat him once again. He asked, "How could you like a terrorists? Are you similar to him? Are you a terrorist?" The Israeli soldier told us we had only 3 minutes to carry our bags, move our car, and disappear from sight otherwise they would start to shoot at us.
