Dear Sister Ibtissam :
Re: An Open Letter to Mrs. Paul Johnson by Ibtissam Al-Bassam, Arab News
I like your letter very much. Could you please write one similar letter each to comfort the loved ones of those Iraqi sisters who were held captives, tortured, raped and killed by the altruistic US forces?
Could you also please write one letter each to all those Iraqi civilians who were snatched from their homes while asleep, disgraced in front of their own families and neighbours, held captive at Abu-Ghraib prison, dehumanized, tortured, forced to eat pork, drink alcohol, stripped naked and sodomized and some of them murdered in cold blood?
Could you also please write to the loved ones of the victims of the wedding party who were slaughtered from the air by the US air force and to those in Faluja, Najaf, Mosul, Baghdad and numerous other cities where civilians were bombed, incinerated and killed during Gulf War-I, during a decade of constant bombing and now during Gulf War-II?
Could you also please include over half a million children and one million civilians who have been subject to slow and painful death by the radiation from DU and, many more who will die for several generations from the radiations ?
Could you dear Sister also write a letter to each of those innocent captives at Guantanamo Bay (majority of whom, it has now been reported, are innocent), who have been subject to inhumane treatment and torture, contravening all international laws, norms and Geneva conventions?
May I also ask you to include the thousands of innocent Afghan men women and children and the Canadian soldiers who have been cavalierly murdered from the air? And those who were in the mosques or at wedding parties too?
Please do not also forget the thousands of victims in Latin America, who are killed by military juntas and death squads supported by the Americans.
While you are at it, could you also write to the parents of Nick Berg who was initially alleged to have been killed by Iraqis, but now it appears he was killed by the Americans?
And by the way would you write to the loved ones of Kim Sun-il who was just killed? Or, would you just pass it, as it seems, that the life of a Korean, Iraqi, Palestinian or Afghani is not as worthy as that an American or a Jew?
Perhaps you may say, you are only concerned with innocent lives lost in Saudi Arabia. If so, could you please write one letter each to those Saudi scholars who were tortured and killed in the jails or sent home in vegetative conditions? Could you also write to the loved ones of those who were tortured and killed in the Saudi jails because they called for democracy and freedom?
My dear Sister, why do you have to make a connection with murder by some who happen to be Muslims with Islam, but murders committed by Americans and Israelis do not have connection to Christianity and Judaism? Why do you have to say such murders are not permitted in ISLAM, while all other religions also teach the same, and therefore, such clarification is superfluous?
I am sorry my request may keep you busy for the rest of your life.
