23 year old antinuclear activist died of wounds after legs amputated during blockade

castor must stop!, 07.11.2004 18:34

A 23 year old antinuclear activist who had chained himself to the train tracks to stop the ongoing and dangerous nuclear waste transports ("castors") between Germany and France was killed Sunday, apparently somewhere along the French side of the route. The train amputated both legs, and the activist apparently died of wounds during transit to the hospital. Three other activists left the tracks in time and were apparently wounded.

Election graphics

Me, 07.11.2004 17:33

Bush supporters are using the 2004 county-by-county Election Map to create the impression of a Bush "mandate", citing it as graphic proof that the Bush "victory" - if indeed it turns out after due investigation to have been a victory at all - was by a much greater than one percent margin.

Wear Blue Ribbon for Civilian Casualties of War

Remember Civilian Casualties of War, 07.11.2004 14:51

Wear Light Blue Ribbon to Remember Civilian Casualties of the War(s)

with the US having killed over 100,000 Iraqis, many of
them civilians since the beginning of the war (not
even counting the hundreds of thousands killed by the
sanctions before that), it's time there was a visible
symbol seen across the US (and everywhere) remembering
all the civilian casualties of war, both in Iraq and
in all wars. Where is the memorial to the civilian
casualties of Vietnam (over 2 million died)? Korea?
etc....Studies of shown that with modern weaponary
(think Hiroshima), that the percentage of deaths in
war of civilians have gone up, with those deaths being
a majority of deaths now. Time to do something showing
you visible remembrance and opposition to that. Wear a
light blue ribbon. Spread the word.

Misuse of Statistics on the Impact of High Oil prices on GDP

Sohbet Karbuz, 07.11.2004 13:46

In a world where innumeracy and statistical illiteracy have been increasing, it is very easy for politicians (through media) to convince the public by using numbers. Most journalists make their stories based on press releases. In general, reporters never bother themselves reading the original reports due to the immense amount of press releases and information they receive every day. It is time to wake up and think critically about what we read and write.

TruVote: What Might Have Been

HOLLY EDWARDS, 07.11.2004 06:13

Mr. Gibbs spent about three years and roughly $2 million — including thousands of dollars from his own bank account — to develop and market the electronic vote-casting system. TruVote allows voters to touch their candidates' names on a computer screen and receive receipts of their vote at the end of the process. They can then go to a Web site, punch in their voter validation number and make sure their vote was recorded.

Voting fraud in the 2004 elections

William Drake, 07.11.2004 03:32

It seems that there are weird statistical disparities between exit polls and final computerized vote counts in several of the contested states. There have also been mysterious computer glitches giving one candidate thousand’s of mystery votes. Then on top of that we had votes not being counted AGAIN. How long are we going to tolerate this stuff.

Evidence Mounts That The Vote Was Hacked

When I spoke with Jeff Fisher this morning (Saturday, November 06, 2004), the Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida's 16th District said he was waiting for the FBI to show up. Fisher has evidence, he says, not only that the Florida election was hacked, but of who hacked it and how. And not just this year, he said, but that these same people had previously hacked the Democratic primary race in 2002 so that Jeb Bush would not have to run against Janet Reno, who presented a real threat to Jeb, but instead against Bill McBride, who Jeb beat.

"It was practice for a national effort," Fisher told me.

And evidence is accumulating that the national effort happened on November 2, 2004.

House Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on the Constitution demands examination of the FRAUD in Ohio and other states

Dr Hemp, 06.11.2004 18:57

"...voters who attempted to cast a vote for John Kerry on electronic voting machines saw that their votes were instead recorded as votes for George W. Bush...We are literally receiving additional reports every minute and will transmit additional information as it comes available. The essence of democracy is the confidence of the electorate in the accuracy of voting methods and the fairness of voting procedures. In 2000, that confidence suffered terribly, and we fear that such a blow to our democracy may have occurred in 2004.

Leading Journalists Expose Major Cover-ups by Media Corporations

AlwaysShariff, 06.11.2004 13:17

By February 1997 our story was ready to air. It attempted to answer some troubling questions: Why had Monsanto sued two small dairies to prevent them from labeling their milk as coming from cows not injected with [growth hormone rBGH]? Why had two Canadian health regulators claimed that their jobs were threatened—and then said Monsanto offered them a bribe to give fast-track approval to the drug? Why did Florida supermarkets break their much-publicized promise that milk in the dairy case would not come from hormone-treated cows “until it gained widespread acceptance” among the wary public? And why was the US the only major industrialized nation to approve the use of this controversial genetically engineered hormone?
