Media launch preemptive strike on election fraud "conspiracy theories"

Me, 12.11.2004 01:53

Looks like a new offensive in the battle for public opinion has begun in earnest. After a week of deafening silence on anomalies and irregularities in the 2004 Presidential Election, the "mainstream" media has opened up with a salvo of "in depth reporting" aimed at creating a public mindset that those who think the election results deserve close scrutiny are just a bunch of internet conspiracy theorists.

Is fascism too strong a word?

Pam Wight, 12.11.2004 01:18

The religious right's ubiquitous presence is beginning to look like the "f" word--no, not that "f" word--fascism. The pressure is on to sound as religous as possible to compete with the Christian fundamentalists in the White House.

Iraq out of control

jamie, 11.11.2004 23:41

“As U.S. forces battle to suppress insurgents in the rebel city of Falluja, it appears many fighters may have fled to other cities where they are launching new attacks.
In the past three days, there has been a step up in guerrilla activity in Samarra, Baiji, Baquba, Tikrit, Ramadi, areas of Baghdad and in the holy city of Kerbala to the south.” Reuters

No dah! What did you guys expect? More rose petals I guess. The notes below indicate that, far from pacifying Falluja, recent U.S. moves (like the genocidal assault on the people of Falluja...)

Iraqi Resistance Report for November 9, 2004

The Iraqi Resistance, 11.11.2004 16:34

I am posting this report of the Iraqi resistance for the following reason:

It's time that we acknowledge that the only ones who have been able to keep the u.s. from completing their goals of turning Iraq into its sweat shop and oil trough are those in the Iraqi resistance who are sacrificing their lives and physical well being in order to do it.

For all of their numerical impressiveness, the peaceful protest of millions against the war last year made no dent whatsoever in the ability of the U.S. and Britain to prosecute this criminal war. While we've been churning out reems of pronouncements against empire, the only ones standing between the people of Iraq and their occupiers' bombs and tanks has been the Resistance. We in the international anti war movement haven't done or achieved anything when it comes to staying the hand of the criminals who have so far slaughtered over 100000 Iraqis, and are slaughtering thousands more in Fallujah as we speak. To the extent that we have been unwilling and/or unable to do that, we have no moral stature to rob the Iraqis of the ability to defend themselves by censoring or demonizing their advocacy of armed struggle and denying it support.

It's interesting to note that while many of us expect the Iraqis to limit resistance to their occupation to nonviolent protest, we have no qualms about accepting the "legitimacy" in the use of police powers in the United States to pursue "terrorists," -- as long as the rights of the populace are respected of course. Our double standard is racist, as it makes it very clear that some form of police repression and violence is "justified" when it comes to the defense of Americans, but obviously not when it comes to Iraqis defending themselves. By conditioning our support to the Iraqis on the basis of whether or not they make use of the right of defensive violence, we not only subject them to the racist arrogance of dictating conditions in an environment that we only get a glimpse of through what little makes it past the u.s.'s carefully crafted information blocade, but we become complicit in the mass murder perpetrated against them, not to mention their overall enslavement.

We should consider that as residents and/or citizens of the criminal countries that occupy the Iraqis we have even less moral stature to judge what is right or isn't for their struggle. We should realize that opposing colonialism doesn't mean having the anti war movement replace the empire as the entity that people fighting a colonial occupation are beholdent to. Finally, we should remember that for all our protestations about nonviolence, it was ultimately the determination of the Vietnamese to fight on which put an end to the U.S. occupation of their country, not our civil disobedience. I suspect that this will also be the case with the Iraqis' struggle for liberation.

Victory to the Iraqi Resistance!
Marta Rodriguez

Who are the responsible???

Kyaw Thet, 11.11.2004 12:39

According to the history of Burma, the independence and the civil war were born as twin brothers; they happened in the same year. Today, civil war is still happening even though independence ceremonies are on the increase; however, this remains continuous through each generation. Fairly recently politicians and political parties have been analyzing their roles (publishing literature outside of Burma) and judging what will be best for reconciliation among the new generation of ethnic groups. In thinking about the next generation, we focus primarily on the roles of students, student unions and the youth organization, whose beliefs vary widely. The question is whether these different organizations will be able to reach enough of a mutual understanding to overcome the present problems.

The US has destroyed or occupied every hospital in Falluja prior to their unprecedented assult. This is a violation of international war crimes laws, and will result in increasing the civilian casualty count dramatically. Worse still, they targetted those hospitals intentionally to prevent word from getting out about what they are doing there.
