The Bankers Own The Earth [Updated]

Money never truly belongs to any lone individual and it is in fact a shared social communal resource that is an essential part of the basis for forming a community. The custodianship of money is a sacred trust that we must always honor and protect to the full extent of our ability.

Mexico Legalizes Small Quantities of Some Drugs

Rocky Neptun, 31.08.2009 06:48

“That law is for you Gringos, not us,” he smiled. “The police have always allowed the decriminalization of drug use, otherwise the jails would be full, the city treasury bankrupt from having to feed them and the courts clogged with meaningless cases. They only used it when they needed to bust someone, similar to how your cops use vagrancy laws, or when our officers want to shake down an obviously wealthy, arrogant, young North American college student for a few dollars.”

“Look at your stupid state of California,” he seemed to announce, like a lecture, “no money to pay for services because of the billions of dollars you spend locking young kids up for having a good time.”

“You people are hysterical about drug use, a kind of obsessive paranoia that borders on madness,” he continues, while taking a hit off Miguel’s joint. “I truly feel sorry for your intense jealously that someone else might be enjoying themselves.”

Review of science (2)

m Concoyle, 31.08.2009 02:06

Illusions about culture are (unfortunately) upheld by the pride that people have for their society’s “high” culture.
For “the many” to support (or to believe) scientific experts is the same as supporting the oligarchic structure of society, with some exceptions.
Materialism as a foundation for physical description has not worked in regard to describing in a useful manner the stable, definitive spectral properties of quantum systems.
The description of existence should be based on using the mathematics of discrete isometry subgroups, which are built from “cubical” simplexes, which in turn, can be made into space-form geometries, by quotient topology, where now both material and space are to be modeled as space-forms which exist at different dimensional levels in a multi-dimensional context.
Note: It cannot be proved that this new model of material and space is wrong.

German anti-nuclear protests heat up ahead of Sept 21 election

Diet Simon, 30.08.2009 22:49

About one thousand Castor caskets full of nuclear waste are produced by just one atomic power station during its operative life without there being a final repository for it anywhere.

That’s a point the German anti-nuclear activist group Campact is making with demonstrations in 12 cities of the country, which goes to the polls on 27 September.

The conservatives of Chancellor Angela Merkel, keen backers of nuclear power, are tipped to win by a large margin.

Reflections on Peaceful Protest and Constitutional Dialogue in San Pedro Sula, Honduras

David Maxted, 30.08.2009 21:54

"In discussions with participants, including leaders of the protest, I learned that the participants viewed Zelaya as the president of the poor—as the first president of the poor that Honduras has had, in that they believed his social and economic policies were geared towards alleviating poverty and increasing the standard of living for those most in need. They thus view his ouster as the illegitimate use of the military by the nation’s power elite in order to illegally remove a president whose policies began to upset the rich. Most well-known is the fact that Zelaya doubled the minimum wage.

As a result, the political demand of the protest is simple: reinstate Zelaya as the legitimate president and permit the constitutional referendum. To that end, the two major themes expressed by the marchers was the desire to protest peacefully, and the desire to have their human rights respected. Although 99.9 percent of the protesters simply marched and chanted, as they passed establishments viewed as anti-Zelaya, or as “Golpista” coup supporters, several young men would spray-paint political slogans and set off loud firecrackers—but appeared to pass by businesses and buildings that they did not believe were backing the coup. Although this may be vandalism and a form of property damage, it is not violence, and can be understood as part of the political speech being expressed that day. The most important point, though, is that save for this handful of youths, no one took part in property damage, and no one, absolutely no one engaged in violence—including the youths, and including the police officers on this occasion. When altercations arose between the protesters and people observing, the marchers and their leaders repeatedly, continually emphasized that the march was “pacifica”, a peaceful march, and I saw not a single incidence of violence throughout the day."

Indigenous intervention discriminatory: UN

Professor Anaya says the intervention is an extraordinary measure which infringes on the rights of Indigenous people. (ABC TV)

Video: Govt commits to Indigenous Congress by year's end (7pm TV News NSW) Related Story: Calma urges support for ATSIC replacement The United Nations says Australia is breaching its international human rights obligations by continuing the Northern Territory intervention.

The UN's special rapporteur on human rights and fundamental freedoms of Indigenous people, Professor James Anaya, says the intervention is also discriminatory and has urged the Government to reinstate the Racial Discrimination Act.

Professor Anaya has just completed a 10-day fact-finding mission of Aboriginal communities across the country.

He has described the intervention as an extraordinary measure which infringes on the rights and self-determination of Indigenous people.

"In my opinion, as currently configured and carried out, the emergency response is incompatible with Australia's obligations under the convention of elimination of forms of racial discrimination and the international convention on political rights," he said.

"I hope that amendments to the emergency response will diminish or remove its discriminatory aspects," he said.

The Howard government initiated the intervention in 2007 in response to reports of widespread sexual abuse across Indigenous communities.

To do so it had to suspend the Racial Discrimination Act but the Federal Government has already indicated it will introduce legislation to reinstate the Act later this year.

When the Labor Government was elected in 2007, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd promised to take steps to close the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians in areas such as health and education.

Professor Anaya has also urged the Government to take more holistic approach to tackle Indigenous disadvantage.

"It would seem to me that the objectives of the Closing the Gap campaign, the emergency response and other current initiatives and proposals of the Government would be best achieved in partnership with Indigenous people's own institutions and decision-making bodies," he said.

He has also welcomed today's proposal released by Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Justice Commissioner, Professor Tom Calma, for a new Indigenous representative body.

Honduras Coup Resistance: A People Taking Power

General Joe and Phil Stuart Cournoyer, 29.08.2009 23:07

"Anyone who leaves the mass movement out of their calculations may come up short. The resistance movement has emerged as a new force, much more sophisticated and powerful than before June 28.

Activists have been through a particularly acute and brutal school of class struggle. The growing unity between mestizo, indigenous and Afro-Honduran peoples augurs well. Their international ties are more varied and stronger than before.

The Zelaya current itself is not the same as it was before the coup. There is every possibility that the interim period, with or without Zelaya's return, can be used to mature and consolidate this movement and to build its capacity to take on the ruling class in the electoral process and the ongoing battle of for the hearts and minds of the great majority of the nation.

Today is a Day of Action, when marches from all over Honduras will converge on the industrial centre San Pedro Sula and the capital Tegucigalpa. Hondura's National Resistance Front has appealed for simultaneous solidarity protests around the world today.

The outcome depends, above all, on the ability of the grassroots to remain on guard and active in political struggle. Their activity will likely unfold under the twin banners of an election campaign and building support for convoking a Constituent Assembly.

Anti-imperialist fighters should focus on defending the mass movement and its leaders in Honduras, and the goal of continental unity of Our America against imperial domination.

The Honduran coup of June 28 was an imperial dress rehearsal, a test for the coup instigators and for all of Latin America. Above all, the coup is a school for the Honduran grassroots. No matter what short-term twists and turns the contending forces may take, Hondurans will never be the same."

America's deepening inferiority complex begins to bite Russia

Robert Bridge, 29.08.2009 20:05

"But perhaps it is the unpredictable things that worry the US the most. American politics is witnessing a level of partisanship not seen since the Vietnam War. Town hall meetings have exposed the ugly head of a dual-party system that throws voters into the ring against itself. No outlet for real change is available as the corporate-owned media colossus refuses to acknowledge the popularity of truly radical-thinking contenders (think Ron Paul, for example, or Dennis Kucinich, two presidential “pretenders” who attracted enough public support except where it mattered most – in the newspapers and over the airwaves).

America believes that by characterizing Russia as a menacing bogeyman at every opportunity, this will deflect the full impact of its worrisome domestic situation. Negative reporting on other countries is certainly not a new strategy. However, this trick can only work for so long before the true source of a nation’s malaise is rightly revealed. And at this point the United States will be forced to confront its domestic demons – unilaterally."
