Five articles on the Gulf that are being suppressed

General Joe and Friends, 23.05.2010 11:34

"Here we have a coastline that is home to millions of people, ports through which a huge proportion of US goods are received or shipped, fishing grounds that till now have kept up with some of the multi-billion-dollar demand for sea food of various kinds, and, within the Gulf itself, hundreds of other oil rigs (and capped wells) which the US relies on for much of its fuel requirements. And an oil slick vast enough to more than cover Hawaii, or San Francisco - or Washington DC. And that was after only 20 days....with three months to go before they even look like getting their interception well completed...if they can."

Gulf Oil Spill: Vast Majority of Pollution Could Lurk Below Surface for Months or Years

Dan Froomkin, 23.05.2010 09:27

"I would have proposed at least careful consideration of some sort of a flexible shroud, or a shower curtain, some sort of flexible device that could be anchored above the leak, to form like a chimney to bring the oil up," Adams said.

"Basically what that's doing is preventing the oil from scattering. It would bring it up into a relatively confined area on the surface, and it would be thick enough it could be easily contained with booms and sucked up into tankers," he said.

"It wouldn't be spreading all over the place."

Warum rot-rot-grün in NRW scheitern musste

Waldemar Bentrop, 21.05.2010 19:16

A New Oil Rush Endangers the Gulf of Mexico and the Planet

Michael Klare with General Joe, 21.05.2010 16:53

"The Deepwater Horizon explosion, we assuredly will be told, was an unfortunate fluke: a confluence of improper management and faulty equipment. With tightened oversight, it will be said, such accidents can be averted -- and so it will be safe to go back into the deep waters again and drill for oil a mile or more beneath the ocean’s surface.

Don’t believe it. While poor oversight and faulty equipment may have played a critical role in BP’s catastrophe in the Gulf, the ultimate source of the disaster is big oil’s compulsive drive to compensate for the decline in its conventional oil reserves by seeking supplies in inherently hazardous areas -- risks be damned.

So long as this compulsion prevails, more such disasters will follow. Bet on it."

Knowledge, Truth and Human Action: America Hits the Wall

John Kozy, 21.05.2010 14:47

"The number of programs enacted by the Congress that don't work is huge. The war on drugs which began in 1969 has shown no measurable results; yet it continues unabated and has resulted in destabilizing other nations, especially Mexico. Various immigration reforms have proven so ineffective that the people are turning to their own solutions. Tough on crime programs have been enacted numerous times without any measurable reduction in criminal behavior. Educational reforms have proven to be illusionary. Inconclusive wars have been and continue to be fought. No one, it appears, ever wants to measure anything by its results. The nation continues to do the same things over and over again expecting different results, an activity Einstein described as insanity."

Synthetic Telepathy - The Article Wikipedia Did Not Want You To Read

Michael Dwyer, 21.05.2010 10:12

The following article is an entry that appeared on Wikipedia. Within the last 24 hours a major "edit war" broke out and it appeared, at least to me, that the information was being suppressed. The article goes into depth about a field of espionage that employs a technology known as "silent sound" or "Synthetic telepathy". Whilst not specifically mentioned, it may be employed in Northern Ireland against the IRA and related groups. What made me notice it and attempt to save the article, is the fact that at a technical level, the article is sound and the main editor(s) was able to hold his own on the talk page.

If you're interested in high tech espionage, this makes for a very good read.
